Within the framework of the University Alliance for Sustainability, Freie Universität Berlin together with its four strategic partner universities: the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel), the Peking University (China), St. Petersburg State University (Russia) and the University of British Columbia (Canada) will focus on sustainability as a comprehensive topic for collaborating in research, teaching, and campus management.

Freie Universität Berlin is delighted to host the sixth networking event of the University Alliance for Sustainability’s (UAS). The UAS Conference 2021 will be held digitally in October and November. Our annual event is open to sustainability experts from all UAS partner universities, as well as interested external stakeholders working in the field.

Project and Vision

As an international network university with about 36.500 students, more than 200 buildings and 5.200 staff members, all aspects of sustainability are relevant to Freie Universität Berlin - be it in research, education or campus management. This whole institution approach builds also the basis for the conference program and organization.

A platform to share experiences

The UAS Conference shall serve as a platform to share experiences. The program offers insights into state-of-the-art research and sustainability education, bringing together senior and junior researchers from across the globe. Additionally, we invite senior management staff to discuss best practice examples of sustainable campus management in a specially designed workshop. Networking opportunities will be facilitated within the UAS network and beyond.

The University Alliance of Sustainability

The UAS comprises the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Peking University, St. Petersburg State University, the University of British Columbia and the Freie Universität Berlin. The partners focus on sustainability as a holistic approach for collaborating in research, teaching, campus management and outreach activities. The Alliance combines the strengths of five strategic partner universities to develop joint research and teaching projects on the topic of sustainability. We offer exchange options for students, faculty members and administrative staff from across faculties and the universities to promote sustainability discourse throughout whole institutions.
